Differences in Ideas

In the last post, I talked about my writing group at the library and an exercise we did. We all had the same outline for a story.

Self Discovery
Traveling
2-4 people on a journey

Beginning
Introduce the characters and setting
Who are they why should we care
Begin the journey

Middle
Event
Bring characters together
Or tear them apart
Building of suspense
To another bigger event/climax
End
Sound Resolution
What is the point/moral

This last Tuesday we gathered back together and compared what we had written. Not everyone had finished, but everyone had a good idea of what their story was going to be about.

We went around the room and shared the basic plotline of each of our stories. Each one was unique and different. I was amazed at how different each story could be even though we all had the same outline.

One story is about four brothers who haven't seen each other in years and one day get a mysterious invitation to a "family reunion".

Another story is about a girl who dreams about the future and the man who wants to free her from captivity.

Someone else wrote about a rich girl and a poor boy who have grown up being taught to despise one another.

One person even took the idea of traveling to the limits and jumped outside the box. She wrote about time travel and the idea of changing something in the past.

I wrote about a girl who has a secret and how her friends react when they discover her secret.

Each story sounds so good, but each is so different! All from the same outline!

If you have been joining us on our little adventure, write in the comments the general idea of your story. I'd love to know what you have come up with!

If you haven't been able to start on something but you still want to try, it's not too late! Everyone in the group is still working on their story so you can still join in!

Even if you're just joining us and hearing about this for the first time you can still participate!

When you do finish your story I would love to read it! You can send it to me at grinderlauren@gmail.com

Even if you don't participate I'd love to hear in the comments what kind of storyline you can come up with. I enjoy seeing other people's creativity and ideas.
